Welcome to the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) section of our school website.

At Busbridge Infant School we believe that all children should be given the best possible opportunity to achieve their potential. We are committed to offering an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best possible progress for all of our pupils whatever their needs or abilities.

The majority of pupils will have their needs met through the normal classroom arrangements and appropriate differentiation, which may include additional short-term support. We believe that meeting the needs of all pupils is the responsibility of all teaching staff. All of our teachers are responsible for identifying pupils with SEND, and our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) works with staff to ensure that those pupils who may need additional support are identified at an early stage.

Our SEND Policy - The new SEND Policy outlines our ethos and provision for learners with SEND.

Our SEN Information Report - The school is required to share with parents/carers online the details of its SEN Information Report to enable them to make an informed decision on the best school for their chilld.

Our Provision Map (Quality First Provision) - This is an outline of the support and interventions we are currently providing.  The Provision Map is divided into three levels of support:

  • Wave 1 Provision, also called Quality First Teaching which is the level of support all children in the school receive.
  • Wave 2 Provision which is the level of support for children who need a little support to catch up with their peers and is carried out in class.
  • Wave 3 Provision which is the level of support for children who need individual support or specific small group interventions.  These interventions are normally recommended by outside agencies.
Children working at Wave 2 and 3 are identified as receiving SEN support.

Our Local Offer - Surrey has asked all schools to provide answers to fourteen questions, these questions will then allow parents/carers to understand more about how the school supports pupils with SEND ad help them make an informed decision about the school that can best support the needs of their child.

Surrey Local Offer - Please follow the link below to access Surrey's Local Offer.

Our Accessibility Plan - This plan outlines how the school has made reasonable adjustments to be a fully inclusive site for  both children and adults with SEND.

Our Governor's Report to Parents - The school has a duty to report annually to all parents/carers on the provision for SEN within the school.  This is updated and shared annually during the Summer Term.

Our SENCO is Mrs Sarah Melland.  She can be contacted through the school by emailing or by telephoning 01483 417898.
