Homework

Children are expected to read at home every day. Children work hard during their school day and often have ‘social activities’ after school.   No regular homework is given but children will be asked if they are able to contribute books, artefacts or information about the class topic or other areas of the curriculum.Children in Years 1 and 2 will be given spelling to learn.    They will also be given a maths pack in the autumn term and maths activities will be in the newsletters.

Discipline

We encourage the children to develop self-discipline and expect a high standard of behaviour.   We emphasise the positive by praising and encouraging kindness, courtesy and consideration for others. Each class has its own charter for behaviour which re-enforces the ‘Golden Rules’.   If rules are broken there are sanctions which apply.   If difficulties do arise we work in partnership with parents to resolve them as quickly as possible. All parents and children are asked to sign the home/school agreement when they start at our school.

Out of School Activities

Clubs are offered to children in Years 1 and 2 which are run by parents, teachers and outside agencies (for which payment has to be made).   A list will be sent at the beginning of each term.

Religious Education

We follow the Surrey Agreed Syllabus for the teaching of RE in which the children learn about Christianity and aspects of Islam and Judaism.   We feel that it is important that children develop an understanding of other cultures at their own level. The Daily Act of Worship, which is broadly Christian, is a time for sharing, contemplating, exchanging views and reflection and, very importantly, developing a sense of awe and wonder.Parents can withdraw their children from both RE and the daily assembly.

Special Educational Needs

Many children will have a special educational need at some time during their school life, caused by a variety of factors, such as extended illness or absence, family problems, learning difficulties and behaviour problems. The SEN Code of Practice explains clearly the levels of support available to the children and the roles and responsibilities of the school, parents and the outside agencies.   A copy is available in school and an online guide is available at the Surrey Country Councils Special Educational Needs web pages here.

Personal, Social and Health Education

Children will learn respect for themselves and each other, to value their talents and recognise those of others and to be positive about life.   They will be encouraged to keep themselves fit and healthy, taking care of their bodies and teeth through diet and exercise. We do not include Sex Education in our curriculum but answer the children’s questions appropriately according to their age and understanding.

Parent/Teacher Association

You are all members of this Association during your child’s stay at Busbridge.   There is a committee comprising parents, two Teachers and the Head Teacher, which organises fund raising, social and educational functions.    They also organise volunteers to help with any projects which we hope will improve the grounds or the school itself.    Your support is needed to ensure the success of their functions and projects.   Please come to the AGM in September to find out more about the role of the committee and how you can become involved. The name and address of the Secretary can be obtained from the school office.
